The Indonesia Tsunami and Why Thousands of Deaths Were Not Necessary

The recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, on September 28, killed at least 2000 people, with as many as 5000 missing. We'll hear an interview I did earlier in the week with Dr. Louise Comfort. She is a Professor of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, and former Director of the Center for Disaster Management. She is leading the participation of US scientists in the effort to develop the kind of system that can give early warnings of tsunamis, and save thousands of lives. We'll be talking about what that system is, and why it was not in place when the latest tsunami struck.
