Trump's First Days: The Hammer and the Need for Resistance; Defending Abortion Rights; Standing with Immigrants

Assaults on the Right to Abortion

The Monday after his inauguration, Trump re-instituted the "global gag order," making discussion of abortion for any purpose by any NGO receiving US government support, illegal. This was the first step in his stated policy to outlaw abortion.

We'll speak with Dr. Leroy Carhart, an abortion provider who is one of a handful of doctors who preform late abortions, when serious fetal problems are discovered late in a pregnancy, which endanger the life of the woman.

Coming to Grips with the New Situation

We'll speak with Andy Zee, spokesperson for Revolution Books, NYC, and one of the initiators of Refuse Fascism, on the new situation, the fascist nature of the Trump-Pence regime, and the potential for ousting this regime through truly massive action.

Anti-Immigrant Repression, the Border Wall, Attacks on Sanctuary Cities

Trump signed executive orders to begin construction of a wall on the southern border. He also ordered bans on immigration from seven countries with majority Muslim populations. And he moved to punish "Sanctuary cities," which refuse to be part of rounding up undocumented people. We'll speak with Ahilan Arulanantham, director of advocacy/legal director at the ACLU of Southern California and former senior staff attorney at the ACLU Immigrants Rights Project.
